MCoal begins construction at the entrance to the mine from Hwy 231.

Sediment ponds gouged into the earth will receive runoff. There are 61 proposed sediment ponds around the mine site. Proper construction of these ponds is crucial to protection of the surface water and we are very concerned that current regulations allow overflow of the ponds during rain events.

Construction makes it's way west along Hwy 231.

The trucks eat their way north, following the high wall around Cornelius mountain.

Above left, Lincoln Road runs through the valley below the construction.

Silt fences should catch run-off from the construction. Any breach in the fences can allow sediment into the rivers and should be reported.
