Southwings flights in January and February revealed that MCoal appears to be near completion of mining on Cornelius Mountain. The auger holes appear to have been filled. A local resident reports that large equipment has recently appeared on land on the East side of Mountain Gap Road, near the intersection with Lincoln Road. As they prepare to move the auguring operations to Berry Mountain, they will begin the 2nd increment of Phase I of their plan. This means that they will be compelled to use Blount County Roads. These very small, often one lane, roads were not made for these massive trucks which will have to share the road with school buses.
Please tell your county commissioner that you do not want the coal trucks on county roads!
In the following map, Cornelius Mountain is indicated in turquoise blue. The next increment is in pink. The following increments are in green, yellow and orange.
